…ha ha, no I’m not about to break out into song. Yep, it’s that time of year again when the sun lowers in the sky, there is a distinct chill in the air and us short ladies have to go on a hunting spree to try and least pretend we are able to be part of this season’s foot fashion – boots.
Not sure what I mean? Well, I have the foot size of an infant or junior dependant on the shop.
Needless to say, when a pair of shoes are found that looks remotely womanly in a child’s size – I bag them and don’t throw them away. It makes finding space for them a little difficult, true, but the designs are usually once in a lifetime that you don’t see again.
You can’t imagine how happy and overjoyed I was in the summer to find a pair of 2″ high-heeled court shoes in black from Priceless Shoes! Granted there was the obligatory ruffle on the side, but it didn’t look childish – and all I have to worry about is trying to walk in them!
Seriously though, having a sized 12 foot is no laughing matter. Even the small shoe stockists start at a 13/1. Barratt’s Small and Tall range has good intentions, but when I contacted them a few months ago to see if they would be interested in making their range in smaller sizes (i.e. mine), they said that they weren’t. Boo!
Long-shot but worth a try. Ironically, they also operate Priceless shoe shops.
I’m not quite sure who to approach about this or how to lobby footwear companies, or show that there is such a demand, but I do believe that there is a market there for women’s shoes in much smaller sizes. Every time I meet up with fellow small ladies the air is always a buzz with questions like “Where did you get those boots/shoes/sandals?” And the majority of us range in a foot size from 9 – 13.
In the meantime, the best shoe shops for adult shoes/boots designs in child’s size are the lower-end of the retail market shoe shop spectrum and sadly the most likely to disappear – how I mourned the closure of Shoe Express in my town. So, this season I’m loving the “Charming Round Toe Mary Jane with Button Detail” from Priceless Shoes. Product code 043420307 and sizes start from a 10 to 13.
I have yet to find a decent pair of boots – but I’ll keep you posted. Please let us ladies know if you bag a decent pair yourself.
